Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for Congress. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. She was on the panel during the presidential debates in 1988 in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over the years, such as the tax reforms, budget reforms as well as an investigation into the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell traveled extensively along with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
